INTERNATIONAL CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES APPLY FOR MYANMAR LICENSES

Some 60 international construction firms are undergoing the quality test for operations in Myanmar which are due to start this year, local newspaper 7Day Daily reported, citing an official of Myanmar Board of Engineering.
“We’re testing quality of these companies on request of the Ministry of Construction,” a member told 7Day Daily. If passed by the board, the companies would receive licenses from Investment and Companies Directorate and the Ministry of Construction.
Companies which have applied for construction licenses in Myanmar include the construction giants from Japan, South Korea, France and Italy.
Some of the applicants have already been issued licenses.
“Some have certain requirements for licenses,” the source said.
The Building Code being drafted by the Construction Ministry and the Myanmar Engineering Society has yet to complete, keeping some investors in the wait, Than Myint of Myanmar Engineering Society is quoted as saying.
Some companies have established joint ventures with local partners.
